When I first signed up for the World Race, I was super excited that I would be able to visit some African countries. As our race route started finalizing, we ended up with having two Africa countries right in the middle of our race. But as I write this, those two months are over and our squad is now in Asia!
It’s crazy to think how much I was looking forward to going to Africa, and how we had to say goodby after just two short months. But in those two short months, I learned, I grew, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
When I think of Africa, I think of deserts, animals, and safaris. But that was far from what I experienced. Being placed in West Africa, where people are predominantly Muslim, was certainly a culture shock. And being in larger cities wasn’t really what I expected. But I think the Lord used this time in Africa for me to grow in different areas of my life.
I’ve grown in my prayer life and learned how important it is to stay in communication with God. I’ve learned how to listen to Him and discern what He’s saying. And this has lead me to be spirit led. To let the Holy Spirit lead my actions, my words, and my life. But I also learned that if I’m not in prayer, Satan can creep in and try to take footholds in my life.
I’ve learned how to evangelize and share the gospel with those who believe in other religions. I’ve grown to have the courage to start a conversation with a stranger and then questions about their beliefs. And to then share the good news and my own testimony.
And I’ve learned what ministry can look like on a daily basis with making relationships and allowing God to guide my steps. For instance, when I met Nani in Ghana, all I was doing was praying and walking around, and somehow we ran into each other. Maybe God’s purpose for me to come to Ghana was to meet him and bring him to Christ.
Africa was tough, but it was certainly worth it. It’s crazy how fast time flys by. The days are long but the months are short. My race is over halfway done and I’m now in a totally different continent, culture, and time zone.
Hopefully I’ll be able to return to Africa again. But I can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for me next! Please keep us in your prayers as we transition into this new month and see how God continues to use us!
Love and blessings,
Will
TEAM EVEREST UPDATE!!!
In one week, there will be 6 of us starting our trek up to the base camp of Mount Everest. Myself, Rachel, Taylor W., Amber, Rachael, and our SQL, Allison, will be making the trip. This will give us the opportunity to not only experience this awesome adventure, but to be able to create ministry along the way. Please keep us in your prayers as we begin this journey and allow God to lead us. I’m still looking for people to help me financially and if you are able and willing, please reach out and I can tell you how you can!
