We pray before we eat. We pray during church. We even sometimes pray before we go to bed. But what actually is prayer? Have we turned prayer into just another item on our checklist? Do we see prayer as just something we are obligated to do?

Prayer isn’t just giving thanks, giving praise, or asking for requests. It’s all of that and much, much more.

It’s a conversation with the Lord. It’s a intimate relationship with our creator. It’s being in constant communication with Him.

I would assume most people who are either married or in a relationship talk to their significant other every day. And probably multiple times a day. So if we have this personal relationship with Jesus Christ, just like having a relationship with a significant other, shouldn’t we be in constant communication with Him?

Shouldn’t we be telling him how are day is going? Shouldn’t we be thanking him for the many blessings he has given us? Shouldn’t we be talking to him in the struggles that we have?

Prayer is more just a formal, ritual done before meals or at church. It’s a time for you to talk with God. It’s a time to ask God questions. It’s a time to give thanksgiving. It’s a time to be in relationship with Him.

I mean, that’s what Jesus wants, right? A personal relationship with Him where we are in constant communication.

Since being on the race, I’ve learned so much about prayer and how vital it is to being a Christian. And how vital it is on this journey. Especially these past couple months where our team has been evangelizing and sharing the good news. Being prayerful throughout our daily lives has been so fruitful in building the kingdom. Prayer has lead to healings, it has lead people to Christ, and it has helped me strengthen my relationship with God. Prayer has allowed me to be spirit led in everything I do.

So I’m challenging everyone to look at their prayer life. Reflect on on what you may or may not be doing. Could you be in better communication with our Lord and Savior?

“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” – Matthew 6:5-6
