So. What do you pack for 11 months?
That’s the number one question I have been asked.
The art of packing is acquired based on practicality, based on what we will need, on weather and, if we are being honest, checked bag fees. It was easy to come to terms with the minimalistic travel style I would need for the race.
2 bags. 2 heavy bags with only the things I, very uneducatedly, have deemed to be necessary for the next year.
I have happily come to terms with the fact that I probably forgotten something, or have selected an item terribly wrong.
The difference this time, is that I am confident that I don’t need to beat myself up for making the mistake of forgetting something. Because regardless of what my 40lb backpack carries I am certain about the precious load I have to share.
The desire to serve others, the thirst to love on different nations made minimizing a fun learning process. It was a gentle reminder that what I was bringing did not define me, nor was it the purpose of this trip.
No matter what kind of adventure you have to pack for, always remember that you can leave things behind.
Baggage is heavy but the load is light.
