Hey everyone!
It feels like it’s been forever since my last blog but…. I’VE MADE IT TO AFRICA!!!
I have been in Botswana for about a week and will be here for the next 2 months!
We are living in a town called Maun and we have been extremely blessed with living accommodations and with our hosts! This last week we have all been hard at work and very busy. The organization we are working alongside is called Love Botswana and they are doing amazing things in this country.
Love Botswana has 5 main branches that they run, and in less than a week we’ve been able to work along side all of them.
The 5 branches are the orphanage, the life center, the private school, operation blessing, and their reach for life program.
The orphanage is on the property that our house is on, and their are currently 18 kids age 0-5 living their, who are extremely well taken care of, I think that we will be working in/with the orphanage a lot these next 2 months.
The private school is also on the same property that we are living on. There are currently over 400 kids attending the school, which contains grades kindergarten through 12th grade. We got to run chapel there the other morning and meet some of the kids, unfortunately they only have one more week of school before they get out for holiday so we won’t have the opportunity to work with the school as much.
Operation Blessing is a program where Love Botswana finds people in the community who are in need and every week they bless them with food and water, and then they get the opportunity to pray over each family. The other day I got the privilege of being 1 of the 2 people to participate in Operation Blessing! We did 12 house visits, where we gave them vegetables, bread, meat, and water. It was so awesome to hear their stories and to be able to pray over each and every one of them!
The reach for life program, is where they go into schools and teach the gospel, about abstinence, and other things like staying away from drugs and alcohol. They also have a leadership program through this where they equip young people from the community to start there own reach for life. We were able to lead a reach for life last week and it was extremely empowering to see how all of the kids were so engaged and eager to learn.
The life center is where everything happens, it contains all of the offices for Village Church and Love Botswana Ministries. It is where all church services are held, including Sunday morning, Thursday night service, youth on Friday nights, and children’s church. The life center is also a place where youth can come hang out and have a safe and fun place to spend there time, so there is a gym, (soon to be built) coffee shop, basketball court, there is a recording studio for aspiring artists, and lots of other things. The life center is where we have spent most of our time this week because most events are held there.
Love Botswana Ministries does so many other AMAZING things, and I am so blessed to be working alongside them for the next 2 months!
I hope this helped you to depict a little bit of what I will be doing while i’m here in Botswana, and I will continue to keep you all updated!
