Yep. That’s right. I am one of those typical world racers that got a tattoo.
Yes, it is of a mountain range
Yes, I realize mountains are super cliche and basic
Yes, I realize I just got done hiking to Everest Base Camp
BUT no, I actually didn’t get a tattoo for any of the reasons above
Here is MY story.
After I got accepted to go on the World Race I was in intense prayer about whether I should go or not
At this point in time, I had no relationship or experience or knowledge of the Holy Spirit, so as you can imagine, hearing from the Lord was very difficult and seemed almost impossible
Out of frustration and panic from feeling like God wasn’t giving me an answer, I asked my sister Leslea
I knew she prayed about EVERYTHING and often made decisions based off of what God told her to do
Her advice was to ask God to give me a word/color/image/etc. that He could use to confirm over and over. If He confirmed it at least 3 times then it was pretty safe to take it as a ‘yes’
This is not a cookie-cutter formula on how to hear God, it is just a testimony of how God has spoken to her in the past
So I asked God for a sign for Him to use to confirm going on the World Race
And He gave me mountains
Now I understand that seems super cliche and you might be thinking ‘well of course you’re going to see mountains at least 3 times, mountains are a fad right now’, but I lived in Lubbock, Texas AKA the flattest place on Earth
So to get the image of mountains was actually a surprise and kind of confusing to me
Side note: due to my lack of ability to listen to His Holy Spirit, I believe He had to use something as typical as mountains to speak to me in a non-typical way
So I took my image of mountains and started to ask Him to confirm them if I was suppose to go
AND THEY SHOWED UP EVERYWHERE
In songs
In stores
In pictures
In conversations
He confirmed WAY MORE than 3 times
Below is a picutre of one of the confirmations I ran into
And ever since I accepted to go on the race, God has been using mountains to speak to me
Through songs
Through actually being in nature/the mountains
Through His Word
And here on the race GOD HAS CHANGED MY LIFE
The World Race has not changed my life, but God has used the World Race to change my life
So I got mountains tattooed on my wrist
As a reminder to myself of how God has changed my life
As a reminder to not go back to how I was
As a reminder to live through His Holy Spirit everyday
As a reminder that I am a powerhouse of faith and if I have faith the size of a mustard seed, I can move mountains
As a reminder that Jesus often retreated to the mountains to pray, spend time with His Father, heal people and teach His disciples
And as a conversation starter, giving me the opportunity to share my testimony
And getting mountains tattooed on me after trekking through the Himalayas is just the icing on the cake!
How could I pass that up?
For me, MOUNTAINS saved my life
Matthew 17:20
Jesus replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard see, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it will move. Nothing is impossible for you.”
