The city built within walls

Centuries of history

How my soul connects with you

I am thankful for a second gift of being here

Last year, as I sat along the river and your walls surrounded me

I had no idea that my father would also teach me a lesson about how my heart was just like you

A wall to protect my own city

To protect from pain, from rejection.

Being here was an initial time of confusion

But today is a place of deep gratitude for all He has done

This is a place where I made commitments to people that we would fight for our friendship

And this was where I experienced deep love of people fighting for me

How marvelous you are

Rich in history, full of oppression

But the place where I allowed the spirit to tear down some of the intricately laid bricks in the wall of my own heart
