First of all can we all share in a moment to realize that we have made it to Africa (our second continent) and it’s month three. That’s crazy to me wow wow wow! Okay, we can continue now. I thought it would be fun to give a peek into what our travel day(s) from Nepal to Zimbabwe looked like (mostly a lot of long days, unexpected events and some super great blessings). If we are being honest it’s all kinda a blur in my head because we traveled for four days to get here so we will see how this goes.

Tuesday Morning

  • Woke up in our hostel in Nepal,
  • Ate porridge breakfast from the Eco Café for the last time (sad), fear not, Sydney from the future is here to inform you that here in Zimbabwe, we eat some form of porridge every single morning
  • Picked up my laundry and shoved it into my already packed pack
  • Shoved ourselves and all of our luggage into a micro van and headed to the airport.

Kathmandu – New Delhi (1 ½ hour flight)

  • Arrived at the Kathmandu airport, had to go through security three different times
  • Arrive in New Delhi for a 4 ½ hour layover
  • Attempted to play hacky sack to kill time
  • Got in trouble for brushing my teeth in public

New Delhi – Mumbai (2h 10m flight)

  • 12 hour layover in Mumbai (it might have ended up being less due to delays, idk)
  • Waited in Mumbai Customs for hours in the middle of the night (not gonna lie, not the most fun I’ve ever had) and was continuously told to change lines because we were in the wrong one. All of this was done in order to “enter India” just to have to “leave” the country a few hours later
  • Pulled out the good ole air mattress with its freshly patched hole, a commodity I did not have last travel day so that’s a bonus and took a four ish hour nap since it was the middle of the night
  • Lindsay, Syd and I gained the status of pro travelers/world racers in this moment because we bought a HUGE bag of oatmeal for 60 rupees (60?) in Nepal and got free hot water from the airport Starbucks and we got to use their spices to flavour our oatmeal and it was the most delicious, best breakfast ever

Mumbai – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (5hr 10m flight)

  • Arrived in Addis Ababa for a 7 ½ hour layover, there was WiFi (YAY)
  • Ate at an overpriced Chinese restaurant that didn’t sell any Chinese food, what an unexpected event to happen. We split what they called a “hum burger”
  • A man gave us a bag of snickers to share which was very exciting, food is a big deal and an exciting concept here on the race, especially on a long travel day in an expensive airport
  • After waiting for almost the duration of our layover we realized that our flight was delayed 12 hours
  • The airport put us up in THE NICEST hotel ever!!! Complete with a hot shower with real live pressure (something I almost forgot existed) and A BED, A REAL BED!!! A bed that I got all to myself. WOW WOW WOW! I Slept for five hours, woke up as the sun was beginning to rise, had COMPLIMENTARY breakfast and returned to the airport. I cannot express what an exhilarating treat and blessing that was, you can delay my flights any time if that’s what happens

Addis Ababa – Harare (4 ½ hr flight)

  • Finally arrived in Zimbabwe but, it doesn’t end here folks!
  • We stayed at a super cute hostel for the night
  • Went out in the pouring rain (it gets cold here… what?!?) for supper and bought baked beans and rolls and ate them in the rain and it was cold but delicious and oh  and memorable
  • Got back to the hostel and popped popcorn, one of my favourite foods!!!! Then went to bed

Harare – Our ministry location

  •  Took a 7 hour bus ride to arrive where our ministry is for the month

We arrived late but where we are staying is oh so cute! We each get BEDS yes that’s right for the first time we get beds during ministry and my duvet is yellow and I hung pictures of my family and friends on the wall, how adorable!

Since we arrived late, dinner was already finished but hey, if the World Race didn’t make you resourceful, you didn’t do it right so we compiled all of our food which was one small loaf of bread, peanut butter (sorry Tay) 2 packets of Ramen, stale cookies and some tea. This equals a feast for 6 world racers.

After four days of travel, we crashed in our new home for the next month
