Hey! My name is Sydney, I am currently 18 years old and I’m from a small town in Alberta. I have participated in one missions trip prior to my acceptance on The World Race it was to Guatemala this past summer. While there my team and I participated in various forms of ministry; teaching English in schools, VBS, prayer walks and more. It was then that I felt the call to pursue missions full time. I didn’t know how or what that meant exactly, I still don’t know completely what this will mean but I do know my next step will be…
This coming September I am going to launch for The World Race Gap Year. For those of you that don’t know this is a nine month missions trip. I, along with my team will be heading out to five different countries and partnering with local churches and pre-existing ministries to serve and help out wherever and however we can.
“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” (Matthew 9:37)
The countries I will be going to are; Mongolia, China, Zambia, Malawi and Ecuador. Each of these countries needs our help in different ways. In Mongolia, most of the population is nomadic meaning they are constantly moving around, they are considered an un-reached people group. Many have never even heard the name Jesus. China is a closed country, Christians are being persecuted but hope is not lost, the underground church is growing more and more. In Zambia these people have so many physical needs that need to be met. Poverty, unclean drinking water, malnourished, AIDS, to name a few. Malawi, the poorest country in the world, 70% of the hospitable beds there are full with people suffering with HIV/AIDS. Ecuador, More than half of the people there live below the poverty line. The need is great.
I want to use this year to focus my life on what matters, to learn more about the missions field, to love on people and to bring and restore hope.
