I never wanted to come to Vietnam.
It’s a country that never called my attention. I don’t know why exactly but if anyone asked me if I’d like to visit Vietnam before I came on the race, my answer would very strongly be:
No, I don’t want to go there.
I love traveling and for most countries my answer would be:
I WANT TO GO!
YES!
LET’S DO THIS!
As most of you know my race countries switched quite fast. I got fully funded early and I found myself on a new route that included Vietnam. During June and most of July, I was confused. I just didn’t understand why God would send me here of all places. Of all the countries He could choose from, why here?
As I prepared to leave, I prayed a lot, asking God to change my heart towards Vietnam: that I could come with no expectations instead of hard feelings. And like the amazing father He is, He did just that. So here is what week one in Vietnam was like.
I LOVE VIETNAM!!!!
Here are 5 things about Vietnam:
1- The food is so different, yet so great!
2- This has been the most challenging month for communication. The majority of people here study English for many years, but they have a hard time with pronunciation. We are living at a homestay where no one speaks English so all communication is via Google or words my students write in Vietnamese for us to show the owner.
3- Students? Yep, I get to teach English five day a week. We get to read texts from the bible and talk about life for hours.
4- The night market is walking distance from where we live. It’s so fun!
5- Life here is cheap, beautiful, and full of cute cafés.
I still haven’t gotten used to the no physical touch thing. I feel awkward just saying bye and waking away. But life this month has been a blast.
PS. We get comfy beds with a natural breeze to keep us cool at night. I sleep like a princess.
