Our squad leaders and mentor prayed over us and asked for a word from God for each of us.
And the word Teagan, one of our squad leaders, gave me was,
ELEPHANT
What on earth???
But thankfully, with the word she also gave me the meaning and a bible verse to go with it.
Elephants are a symbol of wisdom and hope.
Earlier this month on launch I was asked what I was bringing to the squad, and my answer was motherly instincts, and this word gave me confirmation.
Every day when I think about what I’ve embarked on, the first thing that comes to mind is love. The amount of people I’ll get to love on, the people that maybe never had a mother. Someone to care and pray for them like my mom did, not only daily but also so many nights in a hospital room.
You see every time I got sick, my mother was there. She reminded me of a chicken with her baby chick. No one could come near me without her permission, she would check any meds they gave me.
However as I got older I realized not everyone has that growing up.
So when I think of this year I remember my mom.
What on earth does motherly instinct have to do with hope and wisdom? My mom always gave me hope for a better tomorrow through her wisdom.
Of course I can’t not take my daddy’s inherited sense of adventure it is after all a whole lot of new things to try and do.
But with his sense of adventure I’m also taking his wisdom. The overall understanding of who we represent (for those in doubt of what I mean, we are going as Jesus followers representing the kingdom). The ability to analyze and make good choices.
The verse I was given is:
“Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.” Proverbs 12:10
And I want to bring healing to the sick.
Will I stumble in that? YES. But I also know that no matter what I will get up and try again. Maybe change my approach, but never give up.
That simple word, “ELEPHANT” gave me the excitement I wanted so much.
So watch out Colombia cause you have a very excited and loving Christian in your path.
