I’m on a mission, 11 countries in one year to serve those in need through acts of love through Adventures In Missions: World Race.
Tuesday October 17, 2017 made one full week that my team has been serving here at Los Gozosos. The community has been welcoming, the children so loving and my team getting into the flow of things. I know that my invitation to be here was made extremely clear but my question has been, “God can you please begin to reveal why” and the waiting is tough.I know I am here to serve the children and looking for ways to help nurture and support the community. But I’m getting to know that nothing just is, God always has a bigger picture that he is painting. It’s like I received an invitation to a special event but it says in fine print, “To be revealed upon arrival!” I mean how fun is that especially if you know and love the person who sent it to you. So I resolved to just patiently watch.
One of the first things that really touched me about Los Gozos is the children. Some behaviors are common to children anywhere but the part that stands out is this quiet but steady urgency after their faith or belief in God. Every day in the morning and afternoon we spend time in devotional where we sing hymns, read scripture, and pray. They sing, read and pray passionately usually from memory. These children love devotionals so much they ask for one more song after another and pray until they are moved to tears. Nothing inhibits their worship and they give it all that they have. It convicted me showing a new standard I want to strive for in my daily living.
I’ve been reflecting on that thought “a quiet steady urgency”. Follow me for a moment back to primary school. At some point each year the nurse would pull students out of class for eye and ear checks. For your eyes you would stand from a distance with a spoon over one and then change to the other. You would have to read letters from left to right and the larger the lettering had to be for you to recognize it, the worse your vision. This same concept applied to the ears the louder the sound was for you to hear it the worse your hearing. Unfortunately, in our faith walk this can be true whether it happened overtime or that’s just how things have always been and you didn’t realize.
My spiritual hearing and vision check has been these children. I recognize the urgency of my need for him but for some reason it is just not loud enough. Loud enough to drown out the noise of inner thoughts and erase all inhibition. My focus is to continuously allow God to strengthen my sight for his goodness in all things and perfect my hearing so I can’t help but to speak and know God’s truth from the inside out.
On a larger scale it looks to me as if a massive vision and hearing check is taking place for the world. It’s time that we all pay attention. Have you checked your metaphorical vision and hearing lately? It may not be as good as you think!
