“I want to be a Water Walker, NOT a Boat Sitter.”

We’ve all been there. Whether it’s your job, school, or just your everyday life…we all have times when it feels like we’re just doing the same things over and over again. I mean why make a change? You have everything you need…or do you? Much like in Matthew 14:22-23, God didn’t call us to this world to get comfortable, but to be His witnesses. He called us to walk on water.

Jesus Walks on the Water

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Everyone was perfectly content in the boat. Standing on solid ground. You could say they were in the safezone (the simple life). Not Peter though, maybe he was bored with all that. Peter wanted to do something great, and he did! He stepped out of the boat, out of his comfort zone, and into the dangerous waters of the unknown.

Some people hate change, but there are those who  love a new challenge. Maybe that’s why I could never come up with a good answer for the question many teenagers dread: “So, what do you want to do when you grow up?” Uhhh…I have no idea! Well, I still don’t have an answer, but thats ok because what I do know is that God has a plan for my life and that’s all that matters. Even though I don’t know what it is.

Over all, I’m more of an intervert. Talking to people was never my thing, and trying to witness was even crazier. That’s the funny thing.  Even though I don’t know what I’m called to be, I know for sure God is calling me out of my comfort zone. It may seem scary, but why not? Think about it…Jesus will not let you go anywhere that He will not protect and equip you.

So get out of the boat, out of your comfort zone, and do what God has called you to do…

Walk on water!
