“Learn to be open minded and respectful to people’s opinions, even when you don’t agree.” I just heard that quote the other day and it really had me thinking! Ever since I announced that I will be going on the race in September, I have heard many different opinions from people. A lot of people told me how they are excited for me and what I am doing is amazing. Then there are a couple other people who do not think this is a good idea. To the people that told me why they do not want me to go, I listened and gave them the facts about what exactly Adventures in Missions is and what we will be doing on the race. I was able to change many people’s opinions after I told them the facts, however, there are those who will not listen and stick to their own opinion. I can not change everyone’s mind and have everyone support me 100%. There will always be those few who will not always agree with you and that is perfectly fine! Most of the people that I have spoken to asked if I am worried about my safety. Honestly, a very small part of me is, but that is when you need to learn to trust in God and know that He will keep you safe. Two weekends ago I went to Montreal and my mom and I were talking about how she was more worried for me to go there than any of these third world countries. I have heard some people say “well what about terrorist groups that will want to go after you” and I told them that these terrorist groups will want to target a big number of people in big cities so that it will make the news and scare people. I honestly do not think that these terrorist groups will want to target a small village in Botswana! I understand that some people are worried about my safety and I am thankful for that, but you also need to trust in God.

Like I said before, I can not change everyone’s opinion. Everyone has one, so the most I can do is listen. My job is to reassure everyone that I will be okay on this trip so I decided to list some verses below about trusting in Gods plan that I will be okay!

Proverbs 20:24 The steps of a person are ordained by the Lord, so how can anyone understand His own way?

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean no to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.

Luke 4:10 ‘He will put his angels in charge of you to watch over you carefully.

Psalm 23:3-4 He gives me new strength. He leads me on paths that are right for the good of His name. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for you are with me. Your rod and your shepherd’s staff comfort me.

Psalm 121: 7-8 The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.

Deuteronomy 31:8  The Lord himself will go before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forget you. Don’t be afraid and don’t worry.
