When you live on a pig farm you see a lot of things…
As I sat talking one night with our host Prack, chatting about life and how God is working in our lives. As some of my teammates were teaching our host family English. Prack proceeded to tell me that one of the momma pigs was going to have babies that night!
So 20 minutes later he asked if I wanted to go see how she was. As we walked back to the pig pen I could hear the sounds of suckling pigs and squawking chickens. Prack was walking ahead of me and then as we approached the pig pen he quickly ran to pick something out of a small pool in the ground. I flashed my light on his hand and there was a baby pig about the size of a bottle.
Then he sprang into action. Realizing that he missed the birth of four pigs. I looked down where he had placed the baby pig and there were two others. They were squeaking and trying to stand as they had been born minutes before. Prack ran to the momma pig and said “watch them”. As he proceeded to pull another baby from the end of the Mom. I looked around and kept asking “Prack what can I do?” There was no answer as he was focused on the Mom and taking care of her. So my job was to make sure the babies didn’t run off.

It was a moment where a farmer sprang into action. After he checked the momma pig he quickly gathered a basket and placed the babies in a blanket. Then he went back and tended to the Mom, who was so tired she couldn’t even keep her eyes open. As I looked down at the little piggies, they stared up at me with fresh eyes and slimy bodies.

I realized that more babies were coming, so I ran and shouted to my team “baby pigs” and ran back the pigs. A few of my teammates came running as we shared excitement over our first pig birth. Laughed about how we were in Cambodia on a pig farm and mused at the miracle of the birth and baby pigs!

All this to say, I helped birth pigs on a farm in Cambodia!
That is all…
