“my love can’t rescue you / it can’t make your mountains move

won’t make your desert bloom the way you want it to /

my love can’t heal the scars you carved on your own heart /

my love can’t rescue you the way you want it to”

-Rescue You, Johnnyswim

I love this song because it’s a powerful reminder that humans can’t save themselves.

it also reminds me that there is a love that can rescue me, make my mountains move, make my desert bloom the way He wants it to, heal the scars on my heart, and rescue me the way I want it to.

love is a tricky thing. I personally look for it everywhere: friends, parents, strangers, and dogs (really any animal if we’re being honest). I expect that love to bring me life, happiness, and acceptance. it does, for a few minutes. then I’m left feeling empty; it’s a constant search to fill a void that was never meant for humans to fill.

but, like I said earlier, there is a love that can fill that void & then some. that love only comes from one person: Jesus. I know what you’re probably thinking: “oh geez, here we go again” but let me explain.

Jesus isn’t just a mythical creature in the sky; He was a real person who went through the same things we go through daily. He was tempted by Satan himself (Luke 4), His friend died and He wept (John 11), He was rejected by entire villages (Luke 9), and He was betrayed by one of His closest friends & killed. Did these things make Him love anyone less? No. Jesus’s love isn’t conditional & doesn’t depend on you or your ability to love Him back.

Throughout my life, I’ve seen this love play out multiple ways & times, but I’ve rejected it a lot. sometimes I’d rather turn to my friends for love and approval because it’s instant & it’s tangible (physical touch is my love language). But when I turn to Jesus, I feel fully accepted. fully loved. fully known. and that’s so much better than any hug I could receive.

if you want to know more about Jesus, His love, or just wanna chat, please reach out! I want to talk to you about these things, even if I’ve never met you.
