We’ve arrived in Africa and it’s time for you guys to get the scoop!
The Host:
Our host dad Pastor Chola is about 6 feet tall with a smile almost as wide! He has 7 kids, all equally as adorable and a wife named Lilian…it’s a full house over here! They’ve taken us in and call us their kids, joining their family has added so much fun to the month so far.
Pastor Chola was struck by lightning while driving 4 years ago leaving him with only one eye and frequent headaches; he said in the midst of that he wanted to give up but decided that he was not going to let the devil win, he knew God had more in store for him and his church is a testimony to that! He’s built a church community full of life and joy! Sunday service is a dance party/concert full of energy!
The Mission:
Pastor Chola’s church is in the middle of nowhere, it gives rural a whole new meaning! His mission is to take the church to the people of the remote villages, the people that can’t make it into “town”. So we spend our days hut hopping, walking miles and miles and stopping at remote huts. We are almost always welcomed in; stools are pulled under the shade of trees, mats are rolled out and we are able to sit swap stories. We bring mini Sunday school lessons which have proven to be great conversation starters. As I sit with these people I’m blown away by this experience, so authentic, every hut stop feels like a once in a life time experience.
The Town:
I had been praying that I would not be placed in a big city location in Zambia. I wanted more of a “bush” experience and that’s just what I got! It’s a small community, the main transportation is by foot, we pull our shower/dish/ toilet ect. water up from a well daily and cook over a small charcoal fire…the simple life!
The People:
The common thread between everyone we’ve met is hospitality, these people love to have guests, they love to serve; they are constantly displaying generosity all while smiling big!
Love, Megan
