I remember going to church growing up on occasional Sunday’s and walking in when the worship band was playing. Since I didn’t really have a strong relationship with the Lord and I wasn’t very strong in my faith, I never focused on the lyrics of the songs and they never resonated with me. To me, it was all just a song so I just stood still and sang. I took it all for granted. I saw people around me worshipping in the ways they were lead to worship. Some people raised their hand(s), some people danced, and some people just sat down with their heads bowed in prayer. It wasn’t until I grew more intimately with the father and deeper in my faith that I realized what worship truly means.

Worship means pouring out praises to a savior who is more than worthy of every single praise on our lips. Raising your hands in worship symbolizes truly surrendering and giving all of you to Him, it’s readying yourself to receive every blessing He has for you. To me, it means complete intimacy between my father and me. It means coming before Him in absolute reverence and awe, and worshipping like you are in the presence of the Lord, and surely, you are. Hebrews 12:28-29

As I began to fall in love with the concept of worshipping, I started to become more and more excited for whenever I could do it. Church, youth retreats, camp, even by myself in the car. What a beautiful thing it is that we are able to worship our savior right where we are? Others aren’t as blessed as we are, we cannot take it for granted. Think about this: God sent His son to die on the cross for our guilt, shame and sins because He loves us SO MUCH. Jesus gave his life for ours. We have gained an inheritance through the death and resurrection of our savior, we have new life, we are given grace that we are undeserving of and an abundance of unconditional love. There’s no end to His faithfulness, His love, His grace or His goodness. How worthy is He of our praises? He deserves more than a song, he deserves our hearts. He deserves every single ounce of our praises.

Sometimes I just want to yell at the top of my lungs during worship, declaring His goodness, sometimes I just want to dance and pour out the overflow of joy that He gives me, sometimes I want to get on my knees and just surrender to Him and be in reverence of Him and His holiness, and sometimes I raise my hands because I want to give Him all of me, and all of the praises that He is more than worthy of. Psalm 100:1-5

What’s hindering me from doing the majority of these things (especially at home) you might ask? Well the truth is the worry and fear of judgement from people, but then I remember that I am NOT living for the world, I’m living for my savior. So I close my eyes and I imagine it’s just Jesus and I in the room, it’s me giving my heart to Him. Worshipping the way you are led to worship doesn’t mean you are showing off or putting yourself on a pedestal do not live for others, live for the Lord. Worship in whatever way you feel brings you closer to your father. Romans 12:1-2 Worship is not just a song, it is meant to move you, it is meant to be poured out to bring our God Glory.

So “I’m coming back to the heart of worship and it’s all about you, it’s all about you, Jesus. I’m sorry Lord for the things I’ve made it when it’s all about you, it’s all about you Jesus.” – The heart of worship (Michael W. Smith).
