Today, in my last week at home before launch, I got to spend some time in the mountains with my family floating down a river. The water was cold and the scenery was lovely (duh, it’s Colorado.)
As I was floating I hit a place in the river where things were calm. In the past few weeks it seems time has been sped up. Too much to do and no time to do it. Between people to see, appointments to get to, work to finish up, the noise of the world has been turned up to 11. But this moment on the river, it was all quiet and God, as He always does, broke through and spoke.
Be Still.
The words tattooed on my forearm years ago during a very difficult time in my life are brought to mind.
Be Still.
I watch the water and think about what God could mean. Is being still really so simple? When there is so much to do and so much on my mind, “still” feels wrong.
I let my hand fall beneath the water and focus on how it feels. Cold and clean. A thought crosses my mind. Only the water that keeps moving stays clean, water that sits and goes nowhere becomes contaminated. Then God speaks again…
Be Still, Never Stagnant.
Life is happening, whether I like it or not. Like the river, I cannot stop moving even if I would love to occasionally. Sometimes life will move at a gentle pace and the water will merely ripple. Other times there will be white rapids all around.
Be Still, God says, because just as those calm waters I was floating on have the power to carve canyons in the earth, I have the power to change the face of this world as well. God guides the rivers that shape the mountains, and He will guide me just as faithfully to shape the mountains standing before me. I am so thankful to serve a God so powerful and so good.
This is my last blog that I am writing from home. Over the next few days I will be finishing everything I need to do to prepare for the next nine months, and then my life will change. I ask you to pray for me as this journey gets underway. Also, I am still fundraising and relying on the generosity of all of you to help me on this journey. BIG thank you to all those that have donated already! You can find the donate button at the top of this page. Be sure to subscribe and share!!
