Flat out 2 months
Man was Cambodia flat. It really was. The country was very impoverished. You had to burn your own trash to get rid of it. As you can imagine trash does not burn that great so a lot of it ended up on the streets everywhere. Everything was half put together due to the Khamer rouge which was a genocide/ war with Thailand. They rely on Thailand for almost everything manufacturing wise. But man I’ll tell you one thing. The people there made all of it worth it.
My ministry got switched up halfway through. I was working at the hospital and teaching a sports class as well as doing outreach in the morning. Then it switched to picking up trash then outreach in the afternoon. I was mad at first because I had loved my schedule. But I got to see the benefits of going out or outreach in the afternoon. THE PEOPLE were off work and the kids were done with school. That was the beautiful surprise of Cambodia right there. They blew my expectations with how friendly and welcoming to conversation they were. We have had dinner with multiple residents as well as playing volleyball and connecting with the men as well. We also washed these kids feet at the slums and got to meet this lady who just gave birth 5 DAYS AGO! We had the blessing to pray gods presence over this kids life. You could feel relief in their home. They packed about roughly 9 kids in that little shack but you didn’t see them complaining rather just being kids. I know now why I came to Cambodia. I didn’t sign up for my route because of Cambodia but it was a beautiful surprise. The darkness and condemnation was overwhelming. But god set that place on fire through us lighting the way hopefully able to leave his mark and legacy to spark hope. Man what a beautiful surprise it was.
