Upon arriving in Haiti, we are working in a city called Mirebalis. Throughout this month we will be working with an orphanage “Grace so Amazing” who specializes in taking in moms and their children and also offers work and a home for some of the locals. When we arrived, there were four gentlemen named Mark, John, Lauren, and Jim who are also working with Grace so Amazing and are building a new building out back which will have more room to house more people. They are only here until the end of the 26th and part of my ministry for the month is to assist them in what they are doing.

Our squad was assigned a few different assignments throughout our time here in Haiti. There is one team working at the school that was set up by the ministry here and the team will be assisting the teachers by adding enthusiasm as well as teaching and organizing the kids. Another team was assigned the task of working at the ministry house and helping the mothers with the babies and the cooking and tasks that need to be done here. Finally, I am a part of the construction team working with the four gentleman who arrived here before us. After they leave, we will be going to the schoolhouse to assist with any lawn maintenance or whatever else they may need done, occasionally working with the kids as well.

The people here are so incredibly happy and friendly, despite their living conditions. It breaks my heart all the hardships that they have endured, but despite it all, they still are a community and they assist and care for each other. The amount of trash in the area is something that I will never forget. It is extremely sad. After talking with Lauren about it, he suggested that I use my engineering background to invent a smokeless incinerator to get rid of the trash and that could change the communities around here very much.
