Well, here we are!
We’ve made it into Ukraine and have had a few days to (try) to understand what’s up in this country. Let me fill you in on what I know this far:
-
It’s cold here… good thing there’s a massive and fabulous thrift store down the street to pick up a few warmer items
-
Ukrainian looks more like Greek than anything else… I must admit my expectation of this language was for it to be similar to Romanian. My expectations were bad ones. We can’t read anything. Oh Well!
-
These are some seriously hospitable people… I know American media paints a pretty gloomy picture of Ukraine (if they don’t forget it even exists) but these people are sweet and kind all the time.
-
I have good english… well… at least that was what I was informed by a middle- school, Ukrainian girl. That was a nice boost of confidence in the only language that I’ve ever been able to speak!
-
Ukrainians speak more than just Ukranian. That’s right! Coffee, tea, and cookies sure is a language. They know that it’s the key to my heart and they speak it well!
- This month holds big things!… I don’t exactly know what God has in store for me, my team, or the locals we work with this month but I know He has us here for a reason and his kingdom will be built up here this month.
