Right now I am sitting in the Seoul airport, reminiscing about the last 11 days and how incredible they have been. I have met the most amazing group of men and women (49 to be exact) who are ready to take on the world, and now I can honestly call them all family. We bonded, and we challenged each other to go deeper than we ever thought possible. #dubsup 

It didn’t take long before we opened up and shared our stories (man do these people have amazing stories!), reinforcing to me how the importance of sharing your story with others. Why should you share your story? Check it:

“Tell me a story! Tell me a story!” It’s a well-known fact that children LOVE stories. And even more than fairy tales, children love hearing their parents and older siblings sharing truthful events from their own lives. Why? Because stories have power. They go beyond mere facts and logic and inspire, teach, motivate, surprise, delight and challenge…they help us to understand the world on an emotional level by painting a picture that resonates with our own human experience. Stories connect us to each other. As Maya Angelou said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

EVERYONE has a a story—a testimony—which defines, shapes, moves or propels him or her. Whether the story centers on a salvation experience, an emotional breakthrough, a physical healing, or a relational triumph, each is a precious possession that can be shared with others, restoring faith in the future. And, when we are on the receiving end, stories are gifts we receive from those who have overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, renewing our energy and giving us a new vision, restoring our hope for a happy-ever-after.

You don’t need to be a theologian to share your story. You don’t even need to fully understand the power that is released when you share it. But we are all inexplicably connected. We weren’t meant to walk alone and we weren’t meant to suffer in silence. We were meant to lift each other up….to dig deep into our own experiences….to be vulnerable. Did you know that on a spiritual level, when we do not share the ways God has blessed us, we limit Him (Psalm 78:40-42)?
