Waiting.. it sounds nice. It sounds like patience.

But I wonder how often we use the term “waiting” as an excuse.

I thought about this when I was looking at my plant (if you missed my last post, you can read it HERE).

After several days of “waiting”, it was growing! But what if I literally just waited? I imagined myself sitting in that glider, staring at the dirt all day, filled with insecurity, wondering when it was going to do.. anything.

That’s not the point of life! I don’t think waiting is meant to be this long, dramatic, halting season where we stop everything we are doing to focus all of our thoughts on something we are waiting for.

Life is a choice! And I believe that we have the choice to do our part. Plant, water, speak life, yes! But then, let’s get up off our butt and do something! Read your Bible, eat some food, lay in a hammock, draw, sing, listen to a podcast, meet people, have conversations! Let’s live where we are instead of staring at the ceiling wondering what our next season holds.

Our season is NOW and we never have more than NOW. So let’s do something!

I don’t mean that we shouldn’t wait for things, that we shouldn’t be patient, or we shouldn’t take time to be still. It is so rewarding to live my life (as simple as it may be right now) and come back to my plant every evening and see the growth that has occurred. Both of us.. just living our lives.

Same with my friends and family here in the States. When I’m overseas it’s easy to forget that other people are living their lives and growing too. So much living in fact, since I left on my first mission trip, three of my good friends got married, one friend had a baby, one friend had TWO babies, and two of my favorite people are pregnant right now! Talk about LIFE!!!

So maybe it’s time to ask yourself and ask the Lord about now.. not about tomorrow. You are where you are for a reason.

Is it time for you to move or is it time for you to start living where you are?

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:33-34 ESV

Side note.. I just remembered this blog I read a few years ago written by a young man.. here it is: Why I’m No Longer Waiting Till Marriage
