I was standing outside on our lunch break looking out at the absolutely stunning landscape that is Lesotho (Pronounced Lesootoo). Then I looked down at the mixture of dirt and trash beneath the sandals I bought in Thailand for just a few USD. It was very peaceful and a little surreal.

I’ve had a LOT of internal growth over the last few weeks that I have blogs upon blogs written up that I will share soon but I wanted to give you an update on some of the external things.

After leaving Myanmar, we spent a few days in Cambodia for prayer and worship. We then flew to Africa, spending a few days in South Africa to grow and rest as a squad before making our way to Lesotho.. where I am now!

This month our host has graciously opened up her home to our team. I had no clue how much I missed a HOME. It’s wonderful to feel carpet and look at pictures and knickknacks on the wall. We have electricity but no WiFi, we take bucket showers and hand wash our clothes. It doesn’t feel lacking in anything.

We are teaching at a school for children that have been Kicked out of regular school. Most of the girls were kicked out for becoming pregnant/ having a child, most of the boys were kicked out for behavior or substance abuse.

There is no running water nor electricity and the bathroom is an outhouse.

The classes are small but the children are so smart. I can’t believe the joy and satisfaction of seeing eyes light up when understanding sinks in or when an answer is solved.

My other highlights come from sharing my story with the students and just having time to laugh and talk about life.

I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to teach math and physical science. Other subjects my teammates cover are English, accounting, business education, history, life skills, and Bible. Wow is it incredible!

I hardly notice the lack of things we consider “basic” in America because honestly, I don’t feel like I’m lacking anything here in Africa. I’ve had the opportunity to read more than ever before and I spend my mornings (and some evenings) sipping a hot cup of coffee.

So many blessings. I can’t thank my supporters and God enough for the opportunity to be here!

Much love,
M
