So its here, its actually happening. I’m literally in Africa… Wait what?

For so long I was saying that I was leaving in a few months or weeks or days and then all of the sudden I was actually gone and it’s been kinda crazy.

Because its been so crazy, this blog will basically just be a recap of the last two weeks for all my friends and family who have been wondering what the heck I’ve been doing.

How did I get here?

I left my home on Thursday, September 7th and headed to Atlanta to start launch. I was in Atlanta at a hotel near the airport until 5am on Monday, September 11th, when my squad and I took a bus to Washington D.C. We then spent the night at a hotel near the Dulles Airport. We arrived at the airport at noon the next day and waited until our flight took off at 8:35pm to Qatar.

Twelve hours and forty minutes later we arrived in Qatar, got off the plane like (we thought) only celebrities and the president could (we walked down stairs to a bus), and took minibuses to our hotel. The hotel (rooms provided by Qatar airlines) was the nicest hotel I’ve ever been in. We spent the next few hours exploring Qatar.

Our next flight left at 2:50am. Eight hours later we arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa. After landing, we took minibuses for several hours to our final destination in Nsoko, Swaziland.

What am I doing?

We arrived in Nsoko on Thursday, September 14th at night. For the next few days we had no ministry, so we stayed at the Anchor Center (our new home) and got to know our surroundings. This consisted of taking walks down the dirt road towards the mountains, figuring out how to take public transportation to the store, and getting used to swarms of kids running up to you when you step outside.

Yesterday was our first official day of ministry. My team and I were assigned to a care point called Joyelle, about 10 minutes from our house. While there we play with kids ages 0-5 in the morning, and then when school gets out we help lead lessons and games for kids of all ages. Later this week we will be starting a work project around the playground that will make it safer for the kids.

Whats next?

We are only in Swaziland for about two weeks, then we will have a month one debrief somewhere in South Africa, and then we move on to Lesotho. Hopefully, I will have access to wifi while at debrief, and that brings me to my next section:

Wifi

I don’t have it. At all. So if you are my mom or dad and your wondering why/how I posted a blog and didn’t contact you, or better yet whether or not I’m alive, first: hi, I’m alive. Second: I didn’t technically post this, one of my leaders did with their fancy wifi machine that doesn’t have enough wifi for 50 people to text their parents. So when I said I’ll text you when I have wifi, I didn’t really know that I wouldn’t have wifi for weeks at a time. But, I’ll text you and/or call you when I have wifi. I love you and miss you!

Friends, if I told you I’d talk to you while I’m gone I promise you I will! I love y’all!

Becka, I know we lost our streak and probably our pink hearts and I’m more sad than I should be about this made up technological point system, but yeah. Don’t forget about me. I miss you best friend!

That’s all:)
