3-2- We’re headed to our ministry site in Lesotho, and I’m finally finished with my movie, so I look out the window to see a pitch black sky absolutely set ablaze with stars. Like, everything I’ve heard about African Night skies? Yep, they were SO right. It was incredible. And to accent the moment, as I usually do, I played a song. As we pulled up to our home for the month I had my head out the window singing There Will Be Time right along with Mumford & Sons. Singing it as a worship song, and just sitting in awe of the crazy intricate night sky.
So our ministry hosts have these two ginormous puppers. And they are the sweetest most precious dogs I’ve ever met. Bc each and every dog I meet is the sweetest most precious dog I’ve ever met. Well, after everyone’s gone to sleep, I go to the bathroom, and when I get back, I shine my light on my bed and find two big dark eyes staring back at me. And then I just hear Thomas start to laugh. Louis, one of the pups, has laid claim to my bed! So, I tried to push him out, and he just readjusted at the foot of the bed. I’ve got a new bunk mate now!
4-2-As soon as I walk out my door, my jaw drops. I’m finally able to see it in the daylight, and I can see mountains in literally every direction. 360° of mountains. The song for this moment is Holocene by Bon Iver. And looking up at these green giants all around makes me feel the lyrics, “at once I knew, I was not magnificent.”
After lunch Peter takes us on a tour of the villages. Round huts, sheep, cattle, donkeys, corn, and y’know, not much else. These small communities are to be our workplace for the month. Let’s friggin go.
5-2-We start the morning with a walk. Then for ministry, we pick weeds at a shut-in lady’s house. She cooks us lunch and we leave even dirtier and more sunburnt than we already were. In the afternoon I got to meet Peter’s younger son Jamie. Jamie likes to make his own knives and has a pet corn snake named Houdini, so in other words, we became friends almost immediately.
6-2- 1st day of village visits. We first go to the chief’s house, to make our presence known, but she’s out in the fields. So instead, we just start making our rounds. Coming into the village, we had to cross this ravine, and along the way, we picked up three new friends. We pick weeds in this lady’s garden, fetch water, little tasks. Then pray for the people as we go. I soon become the kid entertainer, a job I don’t mind in the slightest. They tickle me and play with my hair and poke me awake when I’m pretend sleeping and even played dentist with me at one point. Whenever we moved on to a new house, I’d just throw the little girl on my shoulders. When we left for the day, our three stragglers followed. Well, I didn’t want the little girl to walk across the rocks barefoot. So again, I put her on my shoulders, and crossed the big ravine just like that. Safe to say I’ve done my workout for the week.
