As a squad, we have decided to partake in wholesome talk. What is wholesome talk you might ask? Its refraining from saying anything that can be misconstrued or taken offensively or anything used to tear down another person (whether intentional or not) but also it is using speech to uplift and encourage one another.
My first thoughts of wholesome talk were “absolutely not.” Not because I enjoy putting people down, but because this also means NO SARCASM. Sarcasm is a love language for me, so finding out I couldn’t be sarcastic was a big no for me.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that, much like going on the World Race, the things I’m doing aren’t for me. They are to love others well. In not using sarcasm, I’m loving my squad well. Some people haven’t had good experiences with sarcasm, so even if it comes from a place with pure intentions, it could still be hurtful.
In having this wholesome talk agreement as a group, it really makes you think about what you say before you say it. Or even after you say it. Sometimes its super easy to revert back and just say whatever you want. But once those words are out, you realize what you said wasn’t wholesome and you can immediately apologize if needed.
So while I wasn’t initially excited for wholesome talk, I cant wait to see where this process takes me. I will be able to be more intentional with my conversations and be able to bring Kingdom through out all of my daily interactions. So heres to wholesome talk!
