Our squad recently arrived to Cambodia and had our halfway point debrief. What in the world? It seems like just yesterday we were in Atlanta trying to figure out how to get to Colombia after Hurricane Irma, and now this World Race thing is halfway over.
The past 4 and a half months has been full of challenges, celebrations, laughter, tears, encouragement, growth, and so much more. One of my favorite things about the World Race community is how regularly people call you into the things the Lord has gifted you in, sometimes things you didn’t even realize about yourself. One of the things that I’ve come to realize on the Race is that the Lord has gifted me with evangelism. Back in the States, I just thought I loved to talk to people and was good at having conversation, but I’ve realized that is truly a gift from the Lord that should be used to further His Kingdom.
As I’ve started to grow in evangelism and really study how to do it well, my passion for it has increased more and more. I desire to study and learn how to better use this gift that the Lord has given me. A couple days ago I was reading in Acts 4 when Peter and John were being questioned and threatened by the Sanhedrin who “were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.” (vs. 2) They asked Peter and John by what power they were doing this, to which they replied “It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed…. Which is right in God’s eyes to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” (vs. 10; 19-20)
When it comes to us sharing the Gospel with someone, we can come up with a million reasons not to. “What if they ask questions I can’t answer? I don’t want Christians to look uneducated.” or “What if they completely shut me down and don’t want to hear it?” My personal favorite has been “I just don’t feel led to share Jesus with that person right now.” Peter and John were so in love with Jesus that they wouldn’t let anything get in the way of proclaiming His name throughout the nations. Not even the religious leaders or government. They simply could not help but share the good news of Jesus and what they had seen Him do. Why do we hold it back?
If you’re ever questioning whether or not to share the Gospel with someone, ask yourself 2 questions. 1. Is that person made in the image of Christ? 2. Did Jesus die on the cross for that person’s sins? Every single person we encounter needs Him just as much as we do and every single person is a son or daughter whom the Father dearly loves. Spread the Good News.
