Foster Care
Belize
a family that welcomes anyone in with open arms
even us-a few missionaries passing by
they taught us so much
about life
about animals
farming
food
but most importantly
they taught us
there’s
always
room
at
the
table
the Dewbury Family
is the glue to the foster care in Belize
they help social workers find placements
and with emergencies
they welcome in children who need last minute placements
they live out foster care
for Belize to see
and Belize has caught on
locals
missionaries
Mennonites
have also started to foster kids
so many broken families
young girls pregnant
kicked out of the house
given to a man
on the streets
day by day
they shine the light of Jesus
through foster care
changing Belize
their house has been a home
to so many kids
but to us missionaries as well
each day we walked in
they made it feel like home
inviting us to family birthday parties
eating with us
really-ministry this month we were along for the ride
whether it meant
buying crafts
making murals
buying chicks
killing chickens
collecting woodchips
folding laundry
making limeade
cleaning poop
babysitting
cooking
cleaning
organizing
adventuring
helping any way we could
it was such a blessing
they taught us so much
they welcome chaos into their lives
in the most beautiful way
no one is an inconvenience to them
if someone needs help
their home is open
to babysit
to be a temporary home
their home is open
and so are their hearts
they love those around them
as if they were part of the family
they push you to be the best version of yourself
they teach their kids to be independent
how to look to Jesus
this month was such a blessing
the biggest take away
from this family
is that
there is always room at the table
welcome chaos into your life
look to Jesus
and beautiful things will happen
just jump in
one
two
three
God is with me
to the Dewbury’s
thank you for the life lessons, love and joy
thank you for welcoming us into your home
treating us like family
teaching us chaos can be beautiful
and showing us the love of Jesus
keep on shining Jesus’ light in Belize
