Red Rocks Church: Here’s The Story From A to Z

Okay, so we’ve been over the whole “I was called to work at Red Rocks” thing.  ICYMI check out that blog here.  Since that post I’ve been asked a lot of questions about it, ranging from “Are you so stoked?” to “What will you be doing?” to “How much do you have to raise?”  As such, the goal of this blog is to provide a more detailed explanation of the most FAQ.

“Are you so stoked?”

YES!  Red Rocks became my home when I didn’t really have one.  It is one of the few constants I have in my life these days, including my family, my squad, and Jesus.  Every week I can count on a message that challenges me, encourages me, excites me, and always makes me laugh.  Of course I’m stoked to work for a church with the goal to “make Heaven more crowded!!”  Bonus: I get to work with the Young Adults department- meaning I get to work with the coolest people (excluding myself), 20-somethings!  Also, Denver.  Can you say shred the gnar??

“Are you nervous?”

A little.  It’ll be weird going into a city I know very little about… JK that’s been my last year.  I am, however, nervous that I will once again be spending a time away from my dogs (and family).  Honestly, mostly fundraising is the only stressor.

“What will you be doing?”

What won’t I be doing?  Life as a Red Rocks Intern sounds nothing short of hectic- I will be doing everything from administrative support, event planning, Life Group Support (aka small groups), and more.  Essentially I am learning the ins and outs of what it means to run a successful ministry.

“Why?”

Honestly there are so many ways to answer this one (which is good, because it means it’s the right thing for me to do).  The main one, aside from being called by God, is that this will be helpful for my future.  On the Race my dreams have not only been actualized, but some have been developed.  One of these dreams is to bring ministry into the business world.  How will I do this?  You’ll just have to wait and see… is the suspense killing you?  All you need to know for now is that Red Rocks will not only help me become a better woman personally, but also professionally.

“Where will you live?”

Good question.  I don’t know!  Red Rocks Church does not provide housing for interns but will help interns with their search for a place.  While living in an apartment is an option, this means I will have to fundraise for rent and utilities.  Many interns opt out of this option and live with a family for their 9 months serving with the Church.  Right now I am praying for a family willing to rent out their basement, or a room, or even a walk-in closet.  Dog required, Golden Retriever preferred.  Just kidding (kinda).

“How much do you have to raise?”

This question is a little tricky because of the previous one.  I don’t know where I will live so I don’t know the exact amount of money I will need to raise.  Red Rocks Church suggests interns raise between $5,000-$10,000.

The following is a monthly guesstimate (big guesstimate because I don’t remember prices in the States right now…):

Auto: $100

The best parents in the world have provided me with a car that I am oh so privileged to drive!  This said, my only auto expenses will be for gas.  Red Rocks Church has 6 different campuses across Denver and while I will typically be at the Lakewood campus during the week, on Sundays I will be assigned to different campuses depending on where I am needed.

Food: $220

Again, because I don’t know where I’m living I don’t know if I will be cooking my own meals or if I will pay a family for groceries or what.  I do know, however, I know how to ball on a food budget these days and $55 per week seems pretty reasonable.  But also peanut butter is expensive.

Home:  $0-$800

I’m glad I don’t live in LA right now but Denver isn’t cheap.  If I live in an apartment I’ll probably be roomies with my best bud, Amaris Duryea! Fun fact: she’s on the Race and we are on the same team now!!

Medical: $20

Pink tax: $20

Why are tampons and makeup so expensive?!

Travel: jk jk

Utilities: $0-$150

Personal: $0

While I am a music festival junkie, I do not want to include concerts, meals out, coffee, or lift tickets with my fundraising goal.  But if you need a babysitter, I’m your girl!!

When my time in Denver begins I am sure these prices will fluctuate, but for now I am guessing I will need to raise a grand total of around $7,000.

If I live with a family and do not pay rent or utilities: $3,240.

If I live with a family and pay rent + utilities: $6,390.  Based on paying $350 for rent and utilities and cooking my own food.

If I live in an apartment: $10,890.  Based on paying $700 for rent and $150 for utilities.

It would mean the world to me if you would prayerfully consider donating.  I am looking for monthly supports, one-time supports, or anything in between!  Seriously every dollar helps.  You can Venmo me at @Lindsadams11 or PayPal me using the following link: paypal.me/lindsadams11.  I’m so sorry if you tried either of these methods recently, my card was compromised but everything is all fixed now!  Additionally, if you or someone you know would be interested providing me housing, I’d love to hear from you!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions (especially with budgeting and fundraising tips).

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to my support system.  I seriously could not get through this year without your donations, prayers, and encouragement.
