In Ethiopia, Christmas is a little bit later than ours back in the U.S. So, we got to celebrate it again for all of the orphans that lived on the compound of the organization we were working with here! 
 
I got the opportunity of co-writing the script alongside Luke Hanna for a nativity play that we put together for the Christmas party! 
 
Here it is; hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed laughing at ourselves while we put it on!

Joseph: This looks like an okay inn, right? Don’t you think that we will be able to stay here for the night?
 
Mary: Yuh
 
*Joseph and Mary come to door of inn*
 
*Joseph knocks*
 
Joseph: Knock knock
 
Innkeeper: who there?
 
Joseph: Joseph
 
Innkeeper: Joseph who?
 
Joseph: Joseph the husband of Mary
 
Innkeeper: Oh
 
Joseph: Do you have any rooms in the inn available? She gone have a baby.
 
Innkeeper: Nah fam, check next do’
 
Joseph: please, we need somewhere…anywhere!
 
Innkeeper: I got a empty stall in the manger…my Donkey at the vet
 
Mary: YES! Praise the baby in my stomach!
 
Joseph: k thanks.
 
*Joseph and Mary walk to manger and enter*
 
*Animals surround them as Mary gives birth to hydro flask*

Narrator: And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night
 
*enter shepherds*
 
Shepherd 1 (Matt): Isn’t this a great night to be out in the field, keeping watch over our flocks?
 
Shepherd 2 (Jackie): Si, señor 
 
Shepherd 3 (Mango): Yes, this is a beautiful night
 
Narrator: And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear
 
*Angel 1 (Jo) enters*
 
Narrator: And the angel said to them
 
Angel 1 (Jo): Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy! Unto you a child is born, he is Christ the Lord! You will find him wrapped in swaddling cloths in a manger!
 
Narrator: and suddenly, more angels appeared, praising God
 
*enter other angels*
 
*angels sing “Hark the Herald”*
 
*angels exit*
 
Shepherd 2 (Jackie): Vamos! Let’s go see this thing that the Lord has made known to us!
 
Shepherd 3 (Taylor): Yes! Let’s go to the manger!

Wise woman (India): We have come to worship him!
 
Villagers: Bethlehem, bethlehem, yeah, bethlehem, it’s that way, over there
 
*villagers all point toward manger in Bethlehem*
 
Wise man (Brad): Thanks y’all. 
 
Wise woman (Caitlin): We will now go to see this king in Bethlehem
 
Wise woman (India): We will now go to worship our savior and king
 
*exit towards Bethlehem*

Narrator: And Mary gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a feeding trough. 
 
*Mary and Joseph walk out with baby Jesus; animals around them*
 
*Shepherds enter from right*
 
Shepherd 1 (Matt): so this is the king the angels told us about! 
 
Shepherd 2 (Jackie): Hallelujah! And look at all those chickens! Pollos y pollos!
 
Shepherd 3 (Taylor): Let us praise the Lord!
 
*Wise men enter from left*
 
Wise man (Brad): So this is the king we have searching for!
 
Wise man (Caitlin): Hey sweet 6 pound 8 ounce newborn baby Jesus, we brought you some presents!
 
Wise man (India): Oh yeah!
 
*lay the treasure at the feet of Mary*
 
*Angels enter; begin to sing “Silent Night”*
 
Narrator: And that is the story of how it all began; that is the story of how God lowered himself to become a tiny baby so that he could live a perfect life and one day die a death he didn’t deserve so that we might live with him forever in heaven; that is the story of Christmas; to him be the glory forever and ever.
