We are in Thailand! Our ministry location is a small village in Mae Hong Son, the north-eastern district of Thailand. We live in a small bamboo hut. We have a mosquito net, a mat to sleep on, meals prepared, three hours of electricity a day and a community of Thai and Burmese people that we have already fallen in love with. We interact with a lot of Burmese refugees. We actually got the opportunity to walk over the border into Burma and pray over a Burmese woman! That was all the Lord’s working, we were so thankful! The race became 12 in 11 for us.
We will be teaching English three days out of the week and evangelizing the other days. We hope to reach all the people who do not know Jesus in this village.
We have been here for two days and love it. The village is in the middle of the jungle. We know because we have experienced it first hand. We were invited to venture out into the jungle to help gather firewood and food. They go for hours, but us Americans lasted one. When they said go into the jungle, they actually meant go UP into the jungle. We found ourselves hiking a steep muddy mountain in our workout shorts and Chacos. If you thought there were nice footholds to keep you steady as you climbed, you thought wrong. We climbed on all fours to get up into the jungle and slid down on our bottoms to return to the village.
I may or may not have peed my pants laughing as I lost my footing and slid down one hundred feet without any control to stop. The people that live in the village had no problem carrying large stumps for firewood down the treacherous muddy hill. We however, struggled. Watching Katie slip and fall, run into Emmy who began to slide down backwards on all fours and then run into a Thai girl carrying food was the greatest sight.
We are realizing how “out there” we are this month. We are in the bush of Thailand and could not be happier. We have eaten crickets, worms, and spikey fruit. Even out in the bush the Lord is so present. I cannot wait to share more in detail through picture and video, how special this place is. Here is a start.
