Today we went out on the streets of Siem Reap, Cambodia to simply follow God’s lead and share the good news of the gospel with the people we interacted with.
So as Janele, Brandy, and I stepped out, we felt drawn to a shop with postcards. As we looked at the postcards we struck up a conversation with two French women. They were visiting Siem Reap as a part of a long holiday, visiting many different countries in Asia. After talking with them I felt compelled to invite them to coffee with us.
As the five of us sat down at a local cafe, we discussed a number of topics, one being the afterlife.
I asked them, “So what do you think happens?”
She laughed nervously and said “my body will rot and decay I guess”
This is very true. Our bodies will pass away, it’s biology, but thank goodness we are more than our bodies. We have a soul, a spirit, within us that can see and perceive much more than just our physical environment.
Yesterday these two women heard the beautiful story of Jesus. How He is both just AND gracious. and how because of His grace He chose to take our punishment that is rightfully ours because of our sinful state. Even greater is that He rose from the dead to bring us life.
For me to imagine a life without the hope that Jesus brings is honestly like looking into a black hole without a bottom. That’s the whole reason I want to share Jesus wherever I go. In the Bible it says that he is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6) so if I know the one way to get to the Father, why wouldn’t I share?
How could I keep lifesaving truth to myself?
I always thought that I didn’t like to evangelize. I just hated the idea of metaphorically hitting someone over the head with a bible. I believe that method can often burn bridges in people.
However, I know that I, like every Christian, have been called to “go” and preach the good news to all people, making disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). It was so freeing to discover that the way I share the gospel is different from another person, and the way someone needs to hear the gospel is different too.
Knowing there isn’t a formula or an expectation is so freeing! Knowing that my part is to simply obey. Jesus is the one who decided to use us as vessels, even though we are broken He still chose us. There is no plan B.
My hope is that if you are a believer you are empowered to open yourself up to the Lord in a willingness to share, because you know the truth that can free those around you.
If you are not a believer my hope is that you are curious about this, and want to know more.
