$2. What was the last thing you bought for $2 USD? When i think about the last thing I spent $2 USD on in America I think of a king size snickers from wawa (for those of you poor souls w/o a wawa i’ll keep praying for you).
When I think about $2 USD now I think about families in Haiti. Families who have to put food on the table, families who have to buy different clothes for growing babies, families who have to buy new shoes for kids of all different ages, families who have to put a roof over their heads. $2 USD. Close your eyes. Imagine receiving a king size snickers bar for 12 hours of labor. 12 hours of washing clothes. 12 hours of cooking. 12 hours of hard heavy manual labor. Can you see the disappointment in a woman’s eyes? Can you feel the heart racing as a man tries to figure out how to feed his children 3 meals with one candy bar? Can you really see it? Can you really feel it?
America is throwing people on the streets for less than 30 USD. Families giving $1,970 to pay rent but being tossed to the streets without clothes, having to figure out how to care for their families with nothing over $30. America is adding to the population of homeless people everyday. Haiti is building new homes, Haiti is feeding newborns, Haiti is living in a shelter with a roof over your head next to your children for less than 2 USD a day.
America! Wake up! For we cannot be both a lover of money and a lover of God. We cannot neglect the poor any longer! America! Wake up! See the children longing for a warm meal, feel the bone chilled fingers of women who have given their everything to their children but don’t have enough to provide for themselves, hear the cries of families being torn apart by homelessness. America! Wake up! We can revive this place! We can be the revolution it needs. America! Wake up!
Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
