Well, I’ve never really done a whole blog before and I definitely haven’t ever really written about me but…here goes nothing!
My name is Kelsey, I am 18 years old and I go to college at a little small school in Southwest Virginia. I found out about the world race like less than 2 months ago and I fell in love with the idea of it. I have been obsessed with the idea of going to Africa for years…and I really mean like since my freshman year of high school. I was blessed to go to Passion this year to bring in the new year with 55,000 other college kids who loved Jesus (I mean what cooler way to ring in a new year??) and there they talked about how we need to lay aside ourselves for God. It broke me in more ways than one and I was crushed the first day of worship. I sat in my seat right before the session ended and prayed to God to show me His calling for my life. Little did I know what He would do the next few days. It was so clear as I sat there in that seat with 55,000 people around me that I was being called to go. At first I couldn’t believe it. Hello, I’m sitting there with what felt like a million other people, maybe I was accidentally eavesdropping on what God was saying to the next guy. I couldn’t figure it out. So I sat there and prayed and I just kept saying Lord, your will be done, not mine. As it was finally time to board the plane to go back home I just felt the calling so much louder than even sitting there in my seat in the Georgia Dome. I came home and immediately told my parents about it and spent hours trying to find a trip that I felt God was calling me too. I looked for days and I just couldn’t seem to find one that felt “right” so I gave up and thought maybe I was wrong about the calling after all. A few days later I got back to school (I was on Christmas break when I got to talk to my parents about it) and I just kept wondering if there was something out there for me to do, all the sudden it clicked. I knew a girl from high school that had a friend who went on something called the world race. I didn’t even know it was a company until I looked at it. I searched all the hashtags trying to find more information. Watched all the channels on youtube about the trip and finally sat down at my desk in my room and started the application for The World Race Gap Year. Now here I am, less than a month later, telling all of you wonderful people that I have been accepted and I am going!!
I know this was probably really long and I’m not so good with punctuation so there are probably run on sentences and comma splices everywhere but I hope you will take the time to read about me and how I ended up here!!
