We are in the squatter camp community of Kaya Sands. We decided to start ministry by letting the Holy Spirit guide us, give us a vision, word or color to lead our feet. I was in a group with Alyssa and our translator Micheal. We all separated to pray for a bit, listen to the Holy Spirit, and then come back together with what we were given.
The night before, aka Monday night, Micheal had a dream about an old woman, sitting near a creche (daycare). In this dream the old woman was having trouble with someone trying to take money from her, causing her to be unable to travel south to see her kids.
While sitting in solitude I saw very clearly a woman in a purple shirt, so I thought “Ok God if this is from you what do you want for this woman?” “Healing” was the answer. Very simple. I also saw a fence with a few plants behind it.
Alyssa just felt a strong urge to give away her most prized possession, her journal. Made by our one and only sweet squad mate; Ky.
We came together to discuss all this, pray, then set off.
Alyssa and I thought “Well, lets just follow purple things” so we did. Which led us to a house with 3 women doing chores. We asked to help but instead just ended up chatting. I got a serious weird feeling that one of these women was being hurt in some way by her husband or boyfriend. (I am really trying to walk boldly with the Holy Spirit.)
So I asked “Are any of you getting your feelings hurt by your boyfriend or husband somehow?” Turns out one of them was. She gave us a story that seemed to be a cover up. Do I know for sure? No, but I do know something was going on that was not okay. Later talking to Alyssa about it, she felt the same weird feeling. Coincidence? Also, No. That my friends is the Holy Spirit. So we prayed for this woman. I truly believe God is going to move. I may never hear about the outcome, but I kind of like it better that way. Then ALL the glory goes to the deserving one, God.
Leaving this house Alyssa mentioned we go to the nearby creche to see if the woman from Micheal’s dream would be there. I secretly really didn’t want to go, being a little discouraged we didn’t find a woman in purple. Also because Alyssa, Andrew and I went to that same creche last week so I selfishly, very selfishly thought “They have already been prayed for over there” BUT I kept quiet and obliged. Thank the good Lord above I did.
When arriving to the creche we saw sitting right outside AN OLD WOMAN IN A PURPLE SHIRT! This is Gladys by the way (pronounced GLAD- ISS). I picked up my pace walking to her because I was so excited. Sitting down to chat with her, Micheal translating, I asked about her story. She literally, I kid you not, explained Micheal’s dream to a T.
Turns out that the government took away funding for the creche causing the employees to lose their salary, and leaving them as volunteers. Because of that, Gladys didn’t have enough money to go see her kids in Eastern Cape.
W I L D.
Then I asked Gladys if she was feeling pain anywhere. She responded saying “Yes actually, I have a lot of pain in my feet, I can’t walk or even stand for a long amount of time.”
Guys, God is SO faithful. This is the woman in the purple shirt that the Lord told me about. AND she needed healing!
So we prayed, of course. After the first time praying she started crying, saying the pain was no where near as bad. But you see, I believe in a God of healing not a God of semi healing. So I asked if we could pray again. After praying the second time my sweet friend Gladys was in tears. As was I, typical. She stood up, walked around and wouldn’t sit back down. All she kept saying was “Thankey, thankey, thankey.” over and over. Thanking Jesus. The healer. I watched the Lord take the lame and make her walk again. A miracle. Our God is alive my friends.
But wait God wasn’t done yet. Alyssa felt God tell her to give her journal to Gladys, her prized possession. A journal filled with Alyssa’s notes and thoughts. A journal filled with the Lord’s love, mercy, grace and faithfulness. This journal was just what Gladys needed. A gem. Alyssa so obediently gave it away. Storing her treasures in heaven just like Jesus tells us to. Doesn’t mean it is in any way easy. But guys this girl is a rock star. An obedient, loving rockstar.
In this day a lot happened. We acted through the Holy Spirit. In every conversation. Ministry wasn’t just life changing for those we encountered. It was for us too.
God IS faithful. ALWAYS.
EVEN when we think He isn’t
He will NOT forsake us. EVER.
THAT is good, truthful news.
joyfully,
Kell
