I was in an uber a few weeks ago with my parents at pvt, eating out of a big bag of sour patch watermelon my mom had brought me from home. My all time favorite candy. A little boy walked up to my window begging for money. This is normal in the third world. I’ve gotten used to it by now. I didn’t plan on giving him any money. We’re encouraged to actually not do that for various reasons. But I felt a push on my heart to roll down my window and give the candy to him. As he pressed his face on my window, looking in on me, I rolled it down and lifted up the bag of candy to him. That kids face lit up. Way more then it did when others had given him money. Some sweet candy for a sweet little boy.
The next thing I knew my uber driver was asking “what religion are you?” I said I’m Christian, and he responded with “what kind ? Born again?” I chuckled and said “yes how did you know that?” He replied “I can just tell.” He then proceeded to tell me that he was born again as well and the only reason why was because of an American couple he drove 18 years ago that told him about Jesus.
How cool is that??! I think my time in that uber was more for me then it was for him. I thought I would be pouring into him, but he ended up bringing life to me. It was super encouraging to have someone be living proof of the impact missionaries are having on others all around the world. It was encouraging for me to hear and see for myself.
In South Africa we took taxis every where and would always try our best to tell the driver about Jesus. How encouraging to know that what we were doing was actually making an impact, even if we didn’t get to see the fruit from the seeds we were planting. What others did as well, 18 years ago, is still impacting this mans life in the best way.
About an hour in to our drive he started telling me how he used to be an alcoholic, a drug addict and gambler. He explained how he was destroying his family by doing that and everyone around him was suffering because of the addictions chaining him down from living his best life. After he asked Jesus into his heart and to work in his life, he said that his life started to completely change. Things started changing within his family and all his daughters ended up giving their lives to Christ as well. A compete revival in his entire family. Now they’re working and doing their best to share the love of Jesus with others. People came to him offering freedom, he took it, was freed, then freed his entire family and now they’re bringing others out of the grip of the world. That’s some
Kingdom work right there.
How you speak makes a difference in others lives. You could change your uber drivers life. They changed his & He changed mine. How you are acting is impacting the lives of others around you. How you listen to others is impacting how they feel valued as a person.
You are a billboard, what are you consistently portraying to the outside world? Your outward image reflects your inward heart. Challenge yourself and ask yourself is who I’m portraying glorifying to what I was put on this earth for?
