Good news people! The Philippines is spectacular. And I’ve got a blog here to tell you all about it.

Grow International is the ministry we are partnering with for the next THREE MONTHS. We’re staying at a church in the mountains, about an hour outside of Manila. The second story of the church holds our bedrooms and a balcony where we’ve hung our hammocks that look out across miles and miles of beautiful mountainous greenery. It’s quite dreamy, and reminds me a lot of the Dominican Republic.

Mamma Jo is the wife of the pastor that lives with us at the church. They graciously cook all of our meals. It’s probably my favorite food so far on the race. Filipino food is truly a gift from God.

Last Saturday we were shown how to use jeepnees which are the taxi service here. They’re these super cool bus type vehicles and are painted all kinds of fun colors with many different types of art painted around the exterior. They’re unlike any vehicle I’ve ever seen before.

Our ministry for the next few months is looking very fun and flexible! We’ll be tutoring kids, hosting multiple vbs’, and holding week long summer camps for boys and girls at the church. Ministering to street kids is the main focus of the ministry although we’ll also be doing some manual labor such as painting the church, preschool above the church, and building a house for one of the men who work for the ministry.

It’s around 98% humidity here, but living in the mountains makes the heat and humidity bearable. The breeze up here cools everything off quite a bit. I’m rooming with all five of my sweet teammates Thyme, Ashley, Kelsey, Emma and Emily which is so exciting because we’ve never ALL shared a room before. Makes life fun and of course, slightly more noisy. (;

And that’s about all I have for you.

Bye for now!
