In the last month God’s been walking me through a relationship sermon series and it’s changed my life. He’s shown me how important it is to have this season of singleness (may I add that the race is the first time I’ve ever been really single since 8th grade). God’s showed me through the story of Adam and Eve how important it is that I have a relationship with the Lord before I am ever with another person. But not just a relationship with a significant other. He’s showed me that having an intimate relationship with God is the ultimate basis for loving others. It’s been taught to me that I will never know how to love my neighbor in complete fullness if I don’t know how to love myself in singleness.
The standard of any relationship should be the word of God. Remember, I say relationship in the broadest spectrum. Everyone you have in your life from your mom, dad, brother, sister etc. is who you are in relationship with. God WANTS relationship for you. He did not create us to be alone or isolated. It’s apparent that when we are alone we become more vulnerable to satan’s lies. Without others holding us accountable to the purpose God has created us for, the enemy sneaks in. In Genesis 2:18 it says “Then the Lord God said “it is not good for man to be alone. I will make him a helper who is just right for him.” And Ecclesiastes 4:9 it states “Two are better than one, for they can help one another succeed.” Therefore God WANTS us and CREATED us to be in community and accountability relationships with others. But, if I get myself into a relationship with someone where the purpose is not known, that opens up the door to the devil to come in and manipulate.
I’m just going to bullet point these next few points because they’re deep and compact thoughts-. If one sticks out to you, meditate on it and listen to what God has to say about it to you! I know he’s spoken to me about literally all of these so who knows…your life may get wrecked too!
-
God desires to place me in a place where he knows purpose can happen in my life. (If you embrace the place God has placed you, you will then embrace the purpose for you at/in the place).
-
God will always supply me where he calls me to and he’s only going to provide for his plan. I always used to think that God would bless the relationships I was in but if they weren’t the Lord’s plan for me to begin with, why would he bless something not of him and of human desire? If I define myself by anything but God (like boys in my situation), I will have missed view of who I am supposed to be.
-
It’s okay to be single but it’s not okay to be alone.
-
If I don’t spend enough time in the word the Lord can’t speak my identity to me in its fullness. God wants me to know who I am without another person. Because if you don’t know who you are, you will always be on a constant spin of going to someone else to validate who Gods created you to be. Comparing yourself to others is where the devil takes your identity. Therefore, you can never be completely comfortable in an identity that’s not yours.

God has given us parameters. In Genesis 2:15-18 it states “But the Lord warned him “you may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden – except the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”” and in 1 Corinthians 10:23 it states “You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial.” The real power you have as a human is being able to say and know that you can but also knowing you don’t have to. GOD GIVES US A CHOICE to follow him or not, listen to him or not, to sin or not to sin, to fall into temptations or lean harder on him. He loves you and I so much that he lets us make our own decisions. We all look at the world and what people say and let that fill us up and form our identity but in 2 Peter 1:3 it says “ By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.”
That’s it. Gods equipped me with his word to tell me who I am in him in order to live a godly life. It’s awesome and I’m learning so much about how to treat myself in order to love and serve others in a godly way.
I leave for Victoria falls in a few days so keep my team and I in your prayers while we travel…and bunjee jump off the tallest waterfall in the world. (;
Hope everyone has a great day!
Love y’all <3 Kaylin
