We made Christmas what it’s not.
Today our team leader, Aubrey, taught a lesson on what Advent is during the Christmas season and about fasting. She encouraged us to pursue the Lord during advent possibly through a calendar, verses etc. I was SO excited for this. I’m loving the whole “true meaning of Christmas” Christmas. I’m excited that it’s not about the presents and the holiday to do’s. It’s about our Lord and Savior being born into the world. It’s about the person who literally SAVED US from our sins and took our burdens upon his own shoulders because he LOVES US THAT MUCH.
As I searched up advent calendars online I was heartbroken to find how incredibly distorted the world has become with Christmas. One of the first results was “Advent Calendar Healthy”. Literally an advent calendar with healthy food on it. Instead of the candy ones. Yes that’s awesome people are trying to be healthy, but why is that the focus? Why isn’t the first thing that pops up an advent calendar of bible verses for each day of December? #Confused
A few other results were “Luxury Advent Calendars”, “The Best advent calendars, from beauty pallets to booze”. You guys I’m not joking. This is our world.
I sat on our kitchen floor in disbelief. Even cried a bit. I don’t get it and none of it makes sense to me. We live in a brainwashed world that believes consuming things is fulfilling. Disclaimer, it’s not. I’ve learned so much about God in these last few months. More then I can even comprehend. Through that, it’s been rooted deep down into my soul that TRULY THE LORD IS THE ONLY THING GOING TO FILL YOU. Luke 12:29-31 says “And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your father knows you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.”
I’m still processing all this. This blog was kind of just a bunch of jumbled thoughts, poorly written down. But this is what our world has come to and my heart breaks for it. That’s all.
