Hey Everyone!! I’ve got a launch update for you! So I’ve been in Georgia for about five days now. My parents and I got to Atlanta Wednesday night-ish and I got to see a few squad mates at the airport which was very exciting! The next day I took my parents to “Waffle House” to show them a little southern culture…(also because that’s the only place I’ve been to down south and don’t know any different.) We then went to the MLK memorial museum which was awesomeeeee! I loved it and highly reccomend it if you are ever in Atl.
Later that night a sweet friend came and visited me and we went and got my first tattoo!! WOOO! Adulting!!! ..kinda.. Then, of course, we went to The cheesecake factory so I could get my favoriteeeee dessert ever. RED VELVET CHEESECAKE. Woo.
Friday morning came and we went and drove around Atlanta (not really we sat in traffic for like two hours) BUT we made it fun. Had the windows down, and blared music with the beautiful sunshine blowing through my hair while playing the license plate game. WHAT A GREAT AMERICAN SEND OFF RIGHT?
Around 4 o’clock I was dropped off at the racer launch hotel and that hit me hard. Once I had my packs on and walked through that front door that moment of “holy cow I’m actually a world racer” washed over me. It got real.
That Friday night we had a huge worship session with our parents and it was so great because they got to meet all my teammates and squadmates!
Saturday came and us racers had a “session” which is where either a world race alumni speaks on a topic or a speaker comes to teach us about something we need to know how to do before going out into the world. Such as; How to give a proper testimony to connect with the people we are serving, how to pray over others for miraculous healings, how to bring Jesus into an everyday conversation about sports, relationships, american foreign policies, and carreers and success etc. After these sessions we headed to the parent hotel for “the last supper” with our parents. Which of course was no other then the one and only CHIC-FIL-A. Quality last supper, let me tell ya. When we finished eating with our team our parents prayed over all of us which was really cool. I hope to remember that forever. Then we said our goodbyes. Which definitely SUCKED. We cried and we laughed and it was good. I will miss my sweet parents so dearly.
TODAY: We woke up around 8, ate breakfast with our teams, went to another session, ate lunch, went to another session & THEN around 3 we found out our travel plans for the Dominican the next morning. YAYYYY! I KNOW THE MOMENT YOU’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!! We have to be ready to leave the hotel tomorrow at 5:15am. From here we go to the ATL airport and have a direct flight to Punta Cana and then from there we drive for three hours up into the mountains of Lajas de Yaroa where our ministry site is located. We also found out at this meeting that our ministry home was not hit by hurricane Irma and that our squad gets to help with hurricane relief in other cities!
Please pray for safe travels for all 6 squads launching tomorrow. Pray for the people affected by the hurricanes in Haiti and the DR. Pray for our host families. Pray for our hearts as we prepare to embark on this incredible journey.
Thank you all so much for your incredible support you’re overflowing onto me and my squad. I could not do this without my cheerleaders. I’m not positive if I will have wifi or not to update and post blogs this month but I will try my best! I’d love to recieve emails of encouragment or any questions anyone has about the race or my personal journey with the lord.
Love ya’ll so much,
Kay.
