Let me be real with you. When I heard our squad would be coming to Togo this year I thought, “Togo??? I’ve never even heard of that place…” A quick google search revealed that Togo is a small sliver of land on the East side of Ghana. There’s not much to see here, and the capital city of Lomé is not near as busy as the other West African cities we have traveled through. Surprisingly, Togo happens to be the country I have been most excited to visit on our journey this year. And to be completely honest—I’m not sure why.

This month will be our last stop in Africa for the foreseeable future, and it boasts unique opportunities and challenges because we are the very first World Race squad to travel to Togo. Usually, when we enter the countries we serve in around the world, we are not the first to do so. But Togo is a different story.

So before you continue reading, check out this brief video from earlier this week that highlights some of our experience so far, in addition to our expectations going forward:

It’s been three days since I shot that video, and I’m pleased to tell you things have not changed. We are still excited and expectant for the things that God is doing right now in this nation. Earlier this morning we visited a local church and had the opportunity of preaching and praying with the people there.

Unfortunately, many pastors and local church bodies have been in a spiritual drought of sorts. I’m not certain for the reasoning behind this, but the integrity of the Church as a whole has been questioned by leading political figures and many are searching for the real men and women of God to rise up and live out their faith with boldness. Our first day here we heard a local pastor preaching about the hopeful spiritual future for the people of Togo, despite the fact that they have recently been walking through a valley.

Needless to say, our team has had a special opportunity to come alongside many churches and schools in the area, bringing some relief and encouragement to those who are ministering here long-term. Our hope and prayer is that, just as God promised redemption and restoration to the nation of Israel, there is also hope on the horizon for the Church in Togo.

“and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”

2 Corinthians 7:14

Just like America, there are many here that need to know about the life-changing love of God that can only be found in the truth of who Jesus. Please join us in praying for and supporting the local body of Christ in Togo—that their hearts would be humbly expectant for the great things that God can do through them to reach this nation. One of the beautiful things about working with so many children this month is seeing the power of the Gospel at work in the lives of the upcoming generation. We are honored to be the first Squad to partner with these local ministries and we are trusting in the Lord to guide and direct us in these first steps of love, redemption, and revival.

There is hope on the horizon for Togo.
