Let me tell you all the fun story of how we got to Africa, and then specifically Botswana! Traveling with over 40 people on a very small budget is way more fun than family vacations.. and WAY more interesting!
On 11/8 at 4:30 am, the bus left our little pink house in Haiti. We drove down to where the rest of our squad was living. We all loaded onto other buses, and from there, drove to the Haiti airport. It took about 5 1/2 hours to get to JFK… but the views and the sunset were incredible!!!! As soon as we got off that flight, we “quickly” rechecked our bags and ran to our gate. From New York, we flew 12 1/2 hours to Qatar and got to stay in that airport overnight! Finally, we flew 8 1/2 hours into Johannesburg, South Africa. We landed on 11/10 around 6 am looking and smelling amazing after three days of traveling!!From there, we took a bus to our hostel, which we stayed at for three nights.

Here comes the REALLY fun part on how we got to Botswana…..
We left Johannesburg on 11/13 at 8:45 am. We took a bus to the airport, sat there until noon, and loaded on another bus. That bus took us across the border and dropped us of in a parking lot (who knows why) around 8 pm. Another bus picked us up from there and took us to a bus station. We took our packs off of that bus and placed them onto another bus immediately. That bus left the station around 9 and we drove overnight to another bus stop. We got dropped off here at 6 am on 11/14. Then- yup you guessed it- we got on another bus at 10 am!!! We got dropped off in a small town around 2 pm, where we met our hosts. We loaded into their van and 2 trucks and drove for an hour, got on a ferry, then drove for about 2 more hours…. and we pulled up onto their property at about 6:30 pm!!!
Now that we’re- finally- here, I am so thankful! Our host family is beyond incredible, kind, sweet, and hospitable. From the second we got here, all 12 of us instantly felt at home. We live right on the Delta river and everything around us is breathtaking (the sunsets over the river, the flowers, the billions of stars)! The property is huge and gorgeous! I’m just really, really blessed to be living where I am.

NEW YORK!!!
