A couple weeks ago, we did something different for ministry. We had our usual 30 minute walk to our host’s house and our hour of getting into God’s Word, and listening to what He has for us that day or for us personally. When we met up as a group again, our host Brian told us that we weren’t going to do what he had planned for ministry and that God had given him a different direction. He felt as if God wanted us to do a “treasure hunt” —spending time with the lord asking him what he wanted us to find. This consisted of taking an extra 15 minutes to sit in our teams and listened to what God wanted us to find. Our list looked a little bit like this:
Hospital – pray and heal people
A Woman wearing a red jacket and red pants ( all red)
An act of kindness like doing dishes
A Brown jacket
Man in a black beanie frying something
A School
Fruit/Give something away to someone
Once we had our list of things to find, we went out to look for them. First we saw a woman walking with her little boy. She was wearing a red jacket our translater Benita wanted me to chased her down, so I did. Katherine, my team mate, told her about Jesus and what He has done for her. She listened to everything she had to say, but she said she was Hindu. She did say that she has questioned if God is real a few times before, which means God is working in her heart.
We walked a little further and entered the hospital. For a little while, we walked around wondering what it was the God wanted for us here. Then we came across a security guard. Audrey and Mily started talking to him. Megan saw a boy in a wheelchair sitting by the window with his parents, so I followed Megan and Katherine over to talk to them. The boy in the wheel chair had a tube in his nose and lots of bandages. We soon found out that the boy had been either hit by a bus or was in a bus when it crashed. His father’s sister was with him and was killed on impact. That broke my heart. But praise God for keeping this little guy alive. He looked to be about 9 or 10 years old. The dad said that his son has been recovering really well and that he should be in the hospital only until next week (the accident occurred a few months ago, so I imagine they’re pleased to soon be out of there). The boy didn’t talk much, so we communicated by playfully sticking our tongues out at each other. I could tell that he’s a good sweet kid with a gentle heart. His parents were very nice too. Before leaving I gave the little boys some chocolate chip cookies and he had the biggest smile on his face. That’s what made my day. After we were done praying for the little boy and his family the mother got up from sitting down by the window. She pulled out a brown jacket she was using to sit on. At this point? my mouth just dropped because of the works that God had been showing us all throughout this day. Not knowing why to come into the hospital but just following what he told us to do. Then putting two visions together to place all of his works at hand.
I also believe that there was a reason why all 5 of us girls were here at the hospital. Back in Lesotho when there was that bad accident we all helped as much as we could. When we left that seen of the accident we didn’t know really how many people made it out ok. And this was a moment to give this little boy hope. As he was just in an accident. We got to let him know that he wasn’t alone through this pain. We told him that by just making him laugh and giving him cookies. I’m glad God was able to show us somthing and encourage us though this hospital vist. But also I’m glad that we got to make an impact on this little boys life.
