Hello from Vietnam!
My team and I arrived in Da Nang last week and have been super busy with ministry and getting to know each other. For those of you who don’t know, my team changed at the end of Cambodia. I am now a part of a new all girls team with 5 other ladies and it’s been amazing! These women have already been teaching me so much about what it means to love and serve others well. I’m so excited for the future of this new team!
This month has been such a blessing. We are in Vietnam which, next to South Korea (obviously), is my favorite Asian country! The food here is incredible, the people are so hospitable and kind and the landscape is nothing short of beautiful. We are living in a hostel, which is more like a little apartment. We have hot water and a bed! I repeat.. I have a bed! And to top it all off we are two blocks away from the beach! I have been able to wake up and go running on the beach the past few mornings. I feel like I am starting to step out of the wilderness and am walking into the Promised Land! haha okay, that’s a little dramatic, but I’m so happy!
This month we are working with CRU – Campus Crusades for Christ. We hang out with college students in coffee shops and teach them English! Truthfully, we don’t do much “teaching”, it’s mostly conversational practice where we learn more about the students and get to know them. They are some of the funniest and sweet kids I’ve ever met! Most are between 18-22 and living away from their families for the first time in their lives. They remind me so much of myself when I was in college – a little lost, somewhat confused on religion and who Jesus really is, homesick and desperate to have a solid community of people around me. I feel like I have such a passion to build friendships with these students. I want them to know that they aren’t alone. That is doesn’t matter how different our worlds are, or what circumstance we have been dealt in life, that they are so worthy and so loved!
We are so busy throughout the week. We have class “English Club” multiple times throughout the day for a couple hours ranging from 8am to 9pm. We also do outreach with the students, which means we hang out with them outside of club. We have gotten lunch with them, are planning shopping trips, and they even picked us up on their motorbikes last night to drive us around the city so we could see the lights and the Dragon Bridge! (A giant dragon that spits fire and water at night). Today they are even driving us to Hoi An, a popular city 30 minutes south of Da Nang so we can spend time with them. At the end of the month we are hosting a Christmas party for all of the clubs! They are invited to come to our “apartment” to bake cookies, listen to music and hang out! We will get to share our testimonies with all of them and hopefully see some students come to know Jesus! We have been praying that 10 students get saved this month!! BIG prayers!
This month has started off incredible. I’m learning so much and I’m refocusing my life to really reflect Jesus and be more servant-hearted. Honestly, there is just so much happening in my mind! I’ve been a little MIA on here, and I promise I will get back to posting much more content! So much change is coming and I am so incredibly excited to share everything the Lord is doing in my heart! This is going to be a great next season!
