Welcome to my blog! This is strange yet fun because I have never had a blog before – hooray for trying new things! Whether you are family, a friend, or we haven’t met yet, I’m super glad that you have ventured to this page.
Before I get into why I feel called to such a unique mission, I’ll share a bit of the basics. My name is Julia Glasgow, I’m 22 years old, and I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. For the past four years I have been working towards an Elementary Education degree at good ole’ Auburn University! I have a passion for teaching kiddos, and am currently student teaching in 4th grade. Teaching definitely brings out my organized, creative, and enthusiastic side! Some other things I love would be singing, dancing, cooking, watercoloring, reading a good book, and spending time outside hiking or hammocking. I’ve always been a sucker for sunsets, and I’ve decided the beach/lake/mountains are a three-way tie.
You may be wondering how I even learned about the World Race. I actually happened upon the WR website when I was searching for a spring break mission trip my freshmen year at Auburn. I was immediately enthralled by the idea and would find myself daydreaming about going. When I was young I would always love attending the mission conference at my family’s home church. Listening to missionaries share their experiences with God and His people greatly deepened my heart for missions. Going to Nicaragua on my high school’s spring break trip, and traveling to an orphanage in Honduras my freshmen year of college were two of the best weeks of my life. On each trip I found myself thinking, “I wish I could think about the gospel this much every day of my life.”
As college continued and I found myself in a relationship, thoughts of the WR possibility faded, but it was always in the back of my mind. Junior year rolled around, and I was beginning to think about what lay ahead after graduation. Since then, the Lord has truly multiplied my desire to participate in this mission, and I am so excited that it is finally becoming a reality. I’m officially on Route One which leaves this August and travels to El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cote d’ivoire, Ghana, Nepal, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines! The Lord has already taught me so much during this process, and I can’t wait to update you on what He is doing in and through my life in the weeks and months to come!
Thanks again for popping by and for taking the time to read my first post! Please subscribe to my blog to get weekly updates while I’m on the field. And if you feel led, you can donate by clicking the “Donate” box on the top right.
With lots of love,
