On Friday, my team and I went on an adventure day with our ministry hosts and it turned out to be something more wonderful than I could have thought.
We started our adventure by going to a beautiful lake that was hidden down a dirt road and we never would have found it by ourselves. Then we went on a hike and visited the killing caves used during the Khmer Rouge. It made me a little uneasy to stand in the place where so many people where killed, but the experience that followed, way outweighed the sadness I felt.
We hiked all the way to the very top of the mountain and we reached a Buddhist temple. We knew it was about to rain but we stayed up there and decided to wait for the rain to pass. After about 2 minutes of complete downpour, the girls on the team decided to embrace the “bad” weather and we started dancing in the rain. Soon after that, the guys joined us. I have to say that it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. We were using the temple ground as a slip and slide, we were splashing each other, and we were just spending quality time together. When we started to make our way back down the mountain in the rain, one of my teammates, Sammie, said life’s not about waiting for the storm to pass, its about dancing in the rain. I loved this and I think its so true. We spend too much time worrying about getting through the hard things in life instead of enjoying the good things in seemingly bad times.
