Working with Lighthouse ministry this month here in Cambodia has been one of my favorite ministry’s yet. The staff is fun and amazing and the 20 students who are a part of the program reflect their leadership. Here are how 3 of our days here went!
March 20th:
Thank you Grandmom and Papa Jack for sponsoring this day. I hope you and everyone else enjoys this “day in a life” video!
Sure, maybe the title is a little misleading but I hope you enjoyed the video anyway!
March 17th:
Saturday’s are our off day, which meant I got to sleep in! Due to the heat it was only until 8:30, but at this point in the race that makes it a great day already. This month for manistry we have Raf, an Adventures in Missions employee out here with us for most of the month. This was his last weekend with us so we wanted to spend it having fun with him. Also, another squad got here this day to join us for the rest of manistry. It has been great getting to know them. We went to town, ate at a YWAM coffee shop called Eden, explored a bit, and found some awesome replica soccer jerseys that were only $5-$6. They included shorts too, and when you are 6 months into wearing the same clothes, a new shirt of that quality is a welcomed addition to the shirt rotation. At the end of the night we came home and ate dinner at our favorite restaurant named “Jonathan and Solan.” Thank you to my cousin Jake for sponsoring this day of rest and exploration!
March 9th:
The ministry we are partnering with this month, called Lighthouse, has a cook who makes lunch every weekday. However, the area where she cooks was exposed to rain making it difficult to cook lunch on poor weather days. In the morning on March 9th we started the preparation for construction of a roof extension where we are staying. We did all the measuring we needed and drew out a sketch for what it was to look like. After that we had our daily bible study with the students led by pastor Rambo. Later in the day we decided to adventure into town where we found a place to get pizza. To end the night we went to get a $1 smoothie. While we were sitting at the open air smoothie shop a man came up begging for money. It was from this interaction that I decided to write the God Pocket blog (which if you are interested in reading you can find it in my favorites). Later the following week we were back at the same smoothie place and thanks to donations this interaction looked different.
A little girl came up asking for money and I ordered her a chocolate banana smoothie. However, I couldn’t communicate that I was buying her something because of a language barrier, and while they were making it, a family at the other end of the place ordered her and her family food. After closing my eyes and praying about what to do now, I felt God say to wait to give it to someone else. After I opened my eyes I saw a homeless man walk by with a cane and a blanket. That was the answer. I got up and caught up to the man and when I gestured to him that the drink was for him. He dropped his things and bowed saying acoon acoon (thank you , thank you). I left him telling him God loved him. With the language barrier that was all I could say but I know it’s what I was there to do.
Thank you to my relatives the D’Amico Family for sponsoring March 9th in honor of Chris’s Birthday! I hope it was a good one!
