I’ve had a couple people ask me why I want to do this World Race. It started with me going to Ethiopia June of 2016. It was my first time out of the country and first mission trip through the church. I was excited but also fearful of the unknown. Once I got to Ethiopia – I immediately fell in love! I loved the people I met and the work we were able to do.
We spent three days in Korah in Addis Ababa, I walked around in this village of over 100,000 people living in this dump. Houses made of trash, dirt floors, no electricity or plumbing. I saw kids running around with no shoes and own the only clothes they had on. The one thing that they had that we don’t have is love. They have each other to depend on and they have God to depend on. They have true happiness. When they have nothing but have everything to give.
While I was in Ethiopia, I met this guy who had been living there for couple years and he mentioned the World Race to me. I asked him more questions and it was like a light lit up. I was already interested in the World Race the minute he told me all about it. He had been on the World Race just a year or two ago.
Before going to Ethiopia, I was given a bible study packet to do in preparation for the trip. This is when I grew close to God more than ever. I grew up in church, loved Sunday School as a child, but I’ve never known the true love and guidance from God as I had in this time. I finally applied and am now accepted to go on the World Race in October of 2017. I am VERY excited but I am also nervous! This will be such a great experience to learn more about God and to share Him with others.
Why do I want to go? I knew when I came back from Ethiopia, it wasn’t long enough of a trip and all that’s been on my mind is when can I go again. I have grown closer to God in the last year and have been through the sinners prayer and given my heart to God. Where I am nervous about the World Race, I know that God is stay with me and my squad. I believe there’s a reason I went to Ethiopia, met that guy and heard all about the WR and been accepted to GO. I am excited to see the World and be a part of God’s Kingdom.
