As I sat today, on Christmas, in my quiet time with the Lord, He invited me to re-read the story of Jesus’ birth in the gospels. And as I read, so may things stuck out to me, but one hit me especially hard:
“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill what he has spoken to her!” – Luke 1:45
Our God fulfills. He does not leave things undone. He used His prophets to speak of His coming Son- the Suffering Servant and the King of All. What He spoke of long ago, He brought forth in His son. He brought a little Baby in a manger, surrounded by shepherds and kings. And He grew into a man who taught us of the Father and brought peace, grace, and light into darkness. And He takes of out of the darkness, into the light. He completes the good work He began in us. And He will fulfill His promise to come again.
There’s this great song called “seasons” by Hillsong. It talks about how the growth process and the time from when something is a “seed” to when it is grown is sooo important to the Lord. He used this songs remind me that His promises to me are not lost or forgotten. He will fulfill them because He is a God of fulfillment. His words are never empty, void, or subject to change. His promises never depend on my feelings, circumstance, or performance. He is good all the time.
And, just as Elizabeth and Mary believed what the Lord spoke to them, so will I.
